The 2016 Legion Campaign, and advancing into 2017

I want to thank everyone for their contribution to the Legion in 2016 and hope you join us for the 2017 campaign. It’s been a hard year, and with long gaps between releases, but we’ve both grown as a team, and delivered some books I’m truly proud of. And I keep saying ‘we’ rather than ‘I’, that’s because these book projects have all been team efforts. Our first release came out in February 2016. This was a multi-author box set called The Empire At War, featuring some British military science fiction authors: Chris Nuttall (Ark Royal etc.), PP Corcoran (Discovery of the Saiph etc), Phillip Richards (The Union Series). I’m in it too with Marine Cadet, an exclusive Human Legion […]

Get yer Crimson Worlds ‘ere. For free

Military SF fans have probably heard of Jay Allan, who has been busy working on his new series for Harper Voyager recently (Far Stars) and most recently his new series Duel in the Dark that came out last week (kicking off at 99c). Jay started off with self-publishing the Crimson Worlds series, which I remember reading as they came out. Good fun and  a more strategic view of the military campaign he describes than most authors use. Last thing I heard, the series had sold 800,000 copies. Not bad! I mention all this because there’s a compilation of the first three books that’s free. At least, it is today and it is in the US and UK. I can’t speak […]

Starship Troopers and Modern Military SF

I’ve been tracking the science fiction bestseller charts on amazon.com since the start of 2011, with particular attention to space opera and military SF. Yes, it is partially professional intelligence gathering to see what is and is not selling, and to get ideas for my next reads, but it’s much more than that. Science fiction publishing is going through its greatest transformation since at least the widespread introduction of the paperback, and as a huge fan I am simply fascinated to watch these changes as they sweep through publishing at internet speeds. For example, I can take the numbers given by Locus Magazine each year for the number of new science fiction titles published each year, extrapolate backward to the […]

Interview with PP Corcoran

I’m a great admirer of author PP Corcoran, author of the Saiph series and who is now working on another military SF series. We worked together on the Empire at War anthology. He’s just been interviewed here by SFFWorld and it’s worth a read. The Empire at War includes (amongst other great things) the first Saiph novel and also the first Human Legion novel, so if you haven’t yet dipped your toe in either series, this is a good way to do so. You can read the start of The Empire at War online straight away by following this link, or check out the Empire website here. You can find out more about Mr. Corcoran at his website: www.ppcorcoran.com In other news, […]

I’m interviewed in SFFWorld.com

SFFWorld.com have just posted an interview with me here. I splurge on about the origins of the Human Legion series and other stuff besides. It’s my first interview in a long while. Why not  hop on over, take a read, and leave a comment? Comments leave a smile on the faces of the good people who put together these websites for our pleasure (plus it makes me look good 🙂 ).   In other news, like me many of you will have enjoyed the Frontlines series by Marko Kloos. Not content with writing a killer bestselling book series, Mr. Kloos has devised a recipe for the Shockfrost cocktail he mentions in his books. Frankly, that’s just showing off 🙂 I […]

War Against the White Knights

The fifth book in the Human Legion series is available from Amazon now in its Kindle edition. Paperback to follow shortly. As is Legion custom, I’ve set a low launch price for loyal humanlegion.com subscribers to pick up the book for a song. I’ll be raising the price shortly, probably next week. I do get asked whether it’s more helpful to me to wait and buy at a higher price, a question that I’m grateful that people want to ask.  Actually, buying now does help me because at this stage it’s all about getting the book in the charts and the Amazon selling algorithms so that people notice the book. Enjoy the book. There will be one more novel in […]

Book 5. It’s there…

At some point over the next 12 hours, War Against the White Knights should pop up on Amazon. It will be Kindle-only initially, although the paperback will follow in about a week. I’ll make a big fuss about it next week, but I reckon my job’s done for tonight. Tomorrow morning I’m off to a science fiction convention in Manchester, England for the Easter break. Much more on this next week when I’m back. And future projects too! Enjoy the book.
