Chimera Company is mobilizing

The Chimera Company artwork from Cape Town artist Vincent Sammy is coming in now and helping me the visualize the scenes as I get ready to write the last couple of issues of season 1. The portrait you seeing here is of Militia Trooper Lily Hjon, a disgraced captain busted down to the ranks and placed in a punishment company. Some say Lily holds a few grudges; most know to keep such thoughts to themselves. Lily has an all-body tattoo, but it’s not the kind of traditional ink worn by Lance Scipio and many of the characters in the books from earlier series. Hers is a viral-written bioprogram that writes itself as pigmentation directly into the skin. The color palette […]

JR Handley soars while Chimera Company gears up

Breach Team breaches the top-100! I was so pleased last night to see Human Legion Universe alumnus, JR Handley, has broken into the top-100 science fiction bestsellers on amazon.com with a standalone novel collaboration with Chris Winder called Breach Team. Unfortunately, by the time I got around to typing this, the book’s slipped out again. That’s the way it goes, sometimes. Let’s hope it peaks once more. I’m about two-thirds through reading it myself and enjoying it very much. If you liked JR’s Sleeping Legion novels then you will like Breach Team. Reminds me of Demons of Kor-Lir. So, well done to Chris, but especially to JR because we know him so well from his Human Legion Universe stories. I’m […]

So long, JR Handley. Welcome, J.R. Handley.

Legion News! We are no longer publishing JR Handley. Following a major reevaluation of his life, the author previously going by that name wishes to be known as J.R. Handley. *Sigh*. In other words, I realized that JR has been published both with and without the dots in his name, and we’ve settled on the dotty version going forward as the most appropriate. Hopefully the changes will work through Amazon without causing too much mayhem. To celebrate this important event, his Sleeping Legion books will be 99c over the next few days, and this will be effective in Australia and Canada and discounted everywhere else, unlike the last promotion. If you find the books aren’t discounted, then wait a few hours […]

Chimera Company, Sleeping Legion news, and Legion comms interference

Attention signed up Legionaries… I’m hearing reports that some of you are missing the Legion Bulletins that went out this week because mail servers are deciding they are spam, even with individuals who open every issue of the Bulletin. Gmail may have place the Bulletins in the ‘Promotions’ folder, even if you previously told Gmail that it belonged in the ‘Primary’ folder (which you can do in the desktop by right clicking the email in Gmail, saying it should go into Primary, and then clicking the popup at the top of the screen that says you want to do this for future emails). Tuesday’s Legion Bulletin had the full edition of Bonaventure to download. That’s the novelette set at the […]

The Battle of Earth begins today

You can now read the story of the Human Legion’s final campaign. The Battle of Earth Part1: Endgame and Part2: Restart are available now in the Kindle store to buy, or borrow for free if you’re a Kindle Unlimited subscriber. Paperbacks are not yet ready, but should be by mid-week. I’m really proud of this double-bill climax and I think it benefited more from Recon Team advice than any other book, so thank you; it was a team endeavor. It’s been a while since the last main-line Legion novel, War Against the White Knights, was released, and I know some readers have subsequently come across me from my work with Revenge Squad, the Four Horsemen Universe or elsewhere. For both those […]

Kill the bad guys. Get paid… a lot.

My latest novel is out today. It’s my eleventh published one, although I have two more in the drawer that drew some trad publisher interest when it was being shopped around a decade ago. Sisters Sun and Blue are on the run from Earth, operating a mercenary company on behalf of a mysterious alien owner in another part of the galaxy. Many of the mercs are not even human, so when the company becomes embroiled in the repercussions of a crisis on Earth, the sisters have to ask themselves: what are they really fighting for? This novel is part of the Four Horsemen Universe published by Seventh Seal Press, and if you like the sound of it, you can jump […]

Operation Breakout is underway.

Bloodied yet defiant, the Legion survivors emerge from the Hardit onslaught. THE FIGHT BACK STARTS HERE… Lance Scipio and the defenders of Fortress Beta City have emerged from the Hardit onslaught, but to liberate an entire continent is a far greater challenge. Costly mistakes will be made, and to survive Lance must rely upon the most dangerous soldiers in the Sleeping Legion — impossible warriors who should not exist. But whose side are they really on…? If you’ve been waiting for the latest installment of the Sleeping Legion by JR Handley, then your wait is over. It’s available now. What’s more, for a brief period Operation Breakout will be at the special launch price of 99c to help get us some […]

No Marine Left Behind: a new Sleeping Legion novelette

I’m lifting my head above the writing and publishing trenches for a few moments to  share some exciting news about an imminent new Sleeping Legion book launch, a new audiobook deal, and more. If you follow JR Handley’s blog, you’ll already know about a novellete he’s been working on called No Marine Left Behind. Well, he’s no longer working on it because it’s done. Written, edited, rewritten, re-edited, finished! It’s now just his publisher standing between this killer new story and the readers who will love to read it. Yeah, well that’s me, so I’ll be brief because there’s work to be done to bring this out. I’ll be doing the fancy book description when it launches, but the story features Marines left […]

Cover reveal: Hill 435

The next Legion Bulletin going out very soon to signed up Legionaries will have download links to a new Human Legion short story. Actually, it isn’t new because it’s a slightly revised version of the story I sold to the Crises & Conflicts anthology by Newcon Press a while back, but since that hasn’t sold much, most of you won’t have seen this, and that’s a shame because I’m very proud of it. I can’t tell you too much about it because it would give away some of the twists, but there is plenty of action and hopefully a surprise or two. Today I’ve built the eBook and put some cover art together. I… ahem… have been known to occasionally have […]

For those in search of refreshment…

A sight for parched throats, following extensive personal testing I can attest that this device is suitable for coffee, whiskey, and coffee and whiskey. Other fluids to be used with this item at your own risk. A few diehard Legion crazies have been after swag for a long time now. I licensed all the images for this mug now, and I’ll be doing more. Best of all, now I have swag, I’ll be giving some away to random signed-up Legionaries every month. If you’re on the Legion books by the end of March, you’re in with a chance of  a mug guarded by Lance Scipio and his SA-71 carbine. You can always sign up for free here. If you can’t wait, you […]
