The 2016 Legion Campaign, and advancing into 2017

I want to thank everyone for their contribution to the Legion in 2016 and hope you join us for the 2017 campaign. It’s been a hard year, and with long gaps between releases, but we’ve both grown as a team, and delivered some books I’m truly proud of. And I keep saying ‘we’ rather than ‘I’, that’s because these book projects have all been team efforts. Our first release came out in February 2016. This was a multi-author box set called The Empire At War, featuring some British military science fiction authors: Chris Nuttall (Ark Royal etc.), PP Corcoran (Discovery of the Saiph etc), Phillip Richards (The Union Series). I’m in it too with Marine Cadet, an exclusive Human Legion short story called The President’s Son, an article on the state of British military Science Fiction, a suggested reading list, […]

Book 5 releasing soon

Thanks for your patience, everyone. Here’s a quick update on the progress of Book 5: War Against the White Knights. I finished the first draft of the novel earlier this week, and it weighs in at just over a hundred thousand words. Now, first drafts can be a bit rough, but Ian and I have been editing each other’s chapters all the way through. I’m still waiting for Ian’s feedback on the last two chapters, but other than that the draft pretty tight. Normally, by this point I would have asked for volunteers to sign up to a Force Recon Team. The volunteers from previous books have given us sage advice, but running the Recon Teams takes time, and so I’ve decided not to call for volunteers this time around, so I can get the book to you quicker. I fully intend […]

Empire at War – a military SF box set

More announcements! You’ve probably seen plenty of box sets in the Amazon Kindle Store in recent years. The idea is that several individual titles are collected into a single Kindle book, and usually presented at a bargain price. The books are connected by a theme, and the first Kindle military SF/ space opera themed box set that I’m aware of was Stars & Empire, which came out last year and did very well. These box sets are a very good idea, I thought to myself. So I decided to make one of my own. I wanted a strong theme, which took me a while to dream up. Then it occurred to me that I had discovered other British military SF writers over the past year or two, and the only way to find them was by keeping an eye […]

Purple leaves, English Dropship Infantry at war with the Chinese, and the history of the Human Legion universe.

My favorite military sf discovery of 2014 was Phillip Richards and his excellent Union Series. I was scanning the military sf charts on Amazon to see how one of my books was faring and spotted that the fourth Union book was released earlier this week. Naturally, I bought it straight away and have started reading Recce on my Kindle.  Very good so far. In the first book in the series, Andy Moralee has to survive first the brutal hazing from his fellow English Dropship Infantry troopers, and then survive the chaos of war against the Chinese. In the second and third books, Andy takes on more responsibility and has to face some big moral dilemmas as a result. Each book so far has a different feel to it, though always feeling firmly rooted in reality (the author is a serving […]
