Revenge Squad: Advance to Contact

After War, the first book in the new Revenge Squad series is out on Kindle pre-order now, and I can tell you it feels very exciting, and not a little nervous, to have this finally out in the world. You can pre-order from Amazon now, and they will post the book onto your devices on December 20th, because Amazon is nice like that. I’ll be saying plenty more about this urban fantasy/ space opera crossover series between now and Christmas, but for now a big thank you to everyone who helped with the recon edition, workshopping, my editor, Donna Scott, and artist Vincent Sammy. Search for ‘After War’ in your local Kindle Store, or if you’re in the US you can follow this link, and this one for the UK. If you like the book, or enjoyed the recon edition, […]

The Sleeping Legion series

Time for more revelations about the Human Legion spin-off series: Sleeping Legion. I announced this a few weeks ago as a series of novellas that pick up the story of the war on Tranquility that we leave behind in Human Empire, the 4th book of the Human Legion series. As tales are wont to do, this beast has come alive and is now telling us its own story. The Sleeping Legion series will indeed pick up the events left in Human Empire, but will now start off many years before the Human Legion series, deep into the dark history of the Human Marine Corps. Nix the novellas too. The Sleeping Legion will be short novels. I’m working closely with author J.R. Handley to bring the series to life. I’m eager to show them to you but there’s a way to go yet […]

A big announcement about the Human Legion

I love writing the Human Legion books. Even though I have the story mapped out through to book six (and beyond for possible successor series), I often can’t vividly feel what is happening in the minds and hearts of my characters until I’m writing a scene for real. Sometimes my characters surprise me. They aren’t shy about telling me if my story isn’t right, or if they have a more interesting tale to tell than the one I had planned. Consequently I often update my ‘masterplan’. To give a timely Waterloo quote, the Duke of Wellington once said of Napoleon’s marshals: “The French plans are like a splendid leather harness which is perfect when it works, but if it breaks it cannot be mended. I make my harness of ropes: it is never as good-looking as the French, but if […]

Dreams of Victory

Dreams of Victory —A short story from the worlds of the Human Legion — SPOILER ALERT! THIS STORY IS SET BETWEEN THE EVENTS OF BOOK2: INDIGO SQUAD AND BOOK3: RENEGADE LEGION. DON’T READ UNLESS YOU’VE FINISHED INDIGO SQUAD. Know your enemy. Learn his weaknesses. Use them to crush him. Marine Laban Caccamo closed his eyes and fed a recorded image of his Navy opponent directly into his brain. As he stared at his adversary, he filled his mind with fantasies of victory. Long ago, back when Hecht had been Caccamo’s best friend – before promotions had torn the super-diligent lance sergeant away – the two of them had fiercely competed for everything: girls, food, cards, Scendence, shooting, sprints, endurance contests, popularity, and test scores, anything at any time they could turn into a contest. And because they were buddies, who […]

Star Crusades by Michael G. Thomas is on special offer

I posted earlier today that I’d share if I came across a new release or special offer that I thought might be of interest. I don’t intend to do this regularly, but here’s the second of today, so what do I know? Michael G. Thomas has written plenty of space opera and military science fiction novels and seems very popular. I’ve never read him, but when I noticed today that he’s offering a bundle of the first three Star Crusades novels for 99 cents, I bought them. This isn’t a recommendation as such (but only because I’ve yet to read any of his books) but you might want to try him out if he’s new to you too. If you check it out, please verify the price before you buy as it might change. Star Crusades at amazon.com Star Crusades at […]

A space opera book launch… with Lego!

I am proud and excited to announce that Indigo Squad, the second book in the Human Legion series, is working its way through Amazon’s servers to be available from the Kindle Store within the next 12 hours. It will initially be available as a Kindle book, with a paperback to follow a few days later. The initial price will be 99 cents, or the equivalent in local currency, and I will keep it there for at least a week before raising the price. My intention is to follow this pattern with the other books, to give humanlegion.com subscribers the chance to get each new book at the bargain price. My son is very excited. He’s been spending Christmas vacation dreaming up Lego constructions, and to help me celebrate the launch of Indigo Squad he’s recreated a scene from the book in Lego. He’s built a […]
