The Sleeping Legion will arrive in audio over the next couple of weeks! Demons of Kor-Lir and The Legion Awakes are published by Podium Publishing and narrated by Jeffrey Kafer (who narrated Earthrise by Daniel Arenson, the Frontiers Saga by Ryk Brown, Blood on the Stars by Jay Allan, The Empire’s Corps by Chris Nuttall, War Eternal by M.R. Forbes, Starship’s Mage by Glynn Stewart and a whole host of other cool books that I can’t be bothered to type up.) I’ve heard the recordings myself and they are very classy. Demons of Kor-Lir is the prequel novella, and Podium will be releasing that around August 27th exclusively through AudFans.com. Now, this is a new place to me, as a relative audio newbie, but is a great way for audio publishers to give away free introductory novellas and bonus stories. […]

Today I welcome Thomas Weaver to the Legion team. Thomas is currently sharpening his copy editor’s eyeballs in readiness to receive the third Sleeping Legion novel, Operation Breakout, which is already with developmental editor, Corey Truax. Welcome, Thomas, welcome. Thomas Weaver is a writer, editor, and blogger who got into professional editing almost by accident years ago when a gamer friend from university needed someone to copyedit a screenplay about giant stompy robots (mecha). Having discovered that he greatly enjoys this kind of work, he’s been putting his uncanny knack for grammar and punctuation, along with an eclectic mental collection of facts, to good use ever since as a Wielder of the Red Pen of Doom. Thomas is disabled and lives with his smugly good-looking twin brother Paul, who writes military science fiction and refuses to talk about his military […]
I’ve been tracking the science fiction bestseller charts on amazon.com since the start of 2011, with particular attention to space opera and military SF. Yes, it is partially professional intelligence gathering to see what is and is not selling, and to get ideas for my next reads, but it’s much more than that. Science fiction publishing is going through its greatest transformation since at least the widespread introduction of the paperback, and as a huge fan I am simply fascinated to watch these changes as they sweep through publishing at internet speeds. For example, I can take the numbers given by Locus Magazine each year for the number of new science fiction titles published each year, extrapolate backward to the days of HG Wells and Jules Verne with a touch of anecdotal evidence and a large cup of coffee, then […]
I am delighted to welcome Corey Truax to the team. Corey will be taking over editing duties for The Sleeping Legion series by JR Handley. I’ll be withdrawing to take a series editor brief and allow Corey and JR Handley to work together to make these books pop. Before I introduce Corey a little more, I’ll give you a quick status update because we’ve been a little quiet over the summer and I wouldn’t want you to think we’ve been slacking off! With kids off school and even a vacation, going quiet is inevitable, I guess, but we’re back in the saddle now. Many thanks to everyone who helped out with the Recon Team edition of The Legion Awakes, the first book in The Sleeping Legion. That’s nearly ready to go. A few tweaks and the bonus prequel novella, The Demons of Kor-Lir […]
