New Year. New books are here.

I hope you had a marvelous holiday season. We spent Christmas with my parents and it was great to see several generations getting on so well and relaxing after a hard year. I’m almost ready to release the season Chimera Company issues to Insiders (I’m hoping next week), but I wanted today to let you know about Legion alumnus JR Handley. First off, JR put together his first anthology a month ago, Backblast Area Clear. It’s got an Ember War story from Richard Fox, a Chimera Company universe story from me and plenty of other goodies. Anyway, I wanted to mention the book because in the US there’s a 99c Kindle deal that ends tonight (I think). It’s always good […]

The first Chimera Company story is out now, published by someone else!

I’m very proud to announce that I have a novelette in a military science fiction anthology that was released yesterday, and better still, it’s a standalone Chimera Company story. Backblast Area Clear was put together by no less than JR Handley and features stories from Richard Fox, MD Cooper, CJ Carella, JR Castle, Scott Moon, Josh Hayes, JR Handley, Chris Winder, Rick Partlow, Navin Weeraratne, and Logan Scott. With artwork from Jamie Glover, and Ellen Campbell pulling the editing levers. I haven’t read the other stories yet, but the pedigree is top notch and I’ll be doing so on the flight over to Canada tomorrow to see my brother get married. I’m going to be very quiet for a week […]

Chimera Company is mobilizing

The Chimera Company artwork from Cape Town artist Vincent Sammy is coming in now and helping me the visualize the scenes as I get ready to write the last couple of issues of season 1. The portrait you seeing here is of Militia Trooper Lily Hjon, a disgraced captain busted down to the ranks and placed in a punishment company. Some say Lily holds a few grudges; most know to keep such thoughts to themselves. Lily has an all-body tattoo, but it’s not the kind of traditional ink worn by Lance Scipio and many of the characters in the books from earlier series. Hers is a viral-written bioprogram that writes itself as pigmentation directly into the skin. The color palette […]

JR Handley soars while Chimera Company gears up

Breach Team breaches the top-100! I was so pleased last night to see Human Legion Universe alumnus, JR Handley, has broken into the top-100 science fiction bestsellers on amazon.com with a standalone novel collaboration with Chris Winder called Breach Team. Unfortunately, by the time I got around to typing this, the book’s slipped out again. That’s the way it goes, sometimes. Let’s hope it peaks once more. I’m about two-thirds through reading it myself and enjoying it very much. If you liked JR’s Sleeping Legion novels then you will like Breach Team. Reminds me of Demons of Kor-Lir. So, well done to Chris, but especially to JR because we know him so well from his Human Legion Universe stories. I’m […]

Legion Bulletin 47 dropped last night with the Chimera Company conclusion

Legion Bulletin 47 dropped in the inboxes of signed-up legionaries last night. This brings  to a conclusion the prequel micro-series featuring sapper of the Legion Osu Sybutu. I’ve invested a significant amount of time in the two prequel series and the prequel novelette I wrote for an anthology due in December. It’s paying off already, though. I’m most of the way through writing season one issue one, and I’m energized by this powerful backstory flooding around that I put in the prequels. For example, Osu Sybutu feels utterly wretched at the end of the issue that dropped last night. He feels like he’s betrayed his honor and that of the Legion. But in issue one, he gets the chance to make […]

New releases: Chimera Company Season Beta Issue 2, and my Cthulhu Mythos story

Attention: Legionaries! The second of the three-part micro-series went out in the Legion Bulletin Thursday night. Check your spam folder if you didn’t see it. The concluding part is next week. This is the story that features the Legion. The Militia-centered mini-series concluded last month. I’ve already started the main series, but I’m still listening hard to feedback. Thank you very much to everyone who’s been commenting on the prequel series. If you aren’t yet in the Legion, you can see old issues of the Bulletin and get a free starter library by signing up here. I’ve also written a standalone Chimera Company novelette that features some of the same characters for a forthcoming military SF anthology that features the […]

So long, JR Handley. Welcome, J.R. Handley.

Legion News! We are no longer publishing JR Handley. Following a major reevaluation of his life, the author previously going by that name wishes to be known as J.R. Handley. *Sigh*. In other words, I realized that JR has been published both with and without the dots in his name, and we’ve settled on the dotty version going forward as the most appropriate. Hopefully the changes will work through Amazon without causing too much mayhem. To celebrate this important event, his Sleeping Legion books will be 99c over the next few days, and this will be effective in Australia and Canada and discounted everywhere else, unlike the last promotion. If you find the books aren’t discounted, then wait a few hours […]

Chimera Company, Sleeping Legion news, and Legion comms interference

Attention signed up Legionaries… I’m hearing reports that some of you are missing the Legion Bulletins that went out this week because mail servers are deciding they are spam, even with individuals who open every issue of the Bulletin. Gmail may have place the Bulletins in the ‘Promotions’ folder, even if you previously told Gmail that it belonged in the ‘Primary’ folder (which you can do in the desktop by right clicking the email in Gmail, saying it should go into Primary, and then clicking the popup at the top of the screen that says you want to do this for future emails). Tuesday’s Legion Bulletin had the full edition of Bonaventure to download. That’s the novelette set at the […]

The Legions are Legion. Anspach, Taylor, Thomas and Cole.

Here’s a quick update on the Battle of Earth Campaign. First of all, thank you to everyone who’s supported the Legion by buying and reading the books. I can’t do this without you. Sales are in the slow lane but the books are still selling. Just a reminder that if you like the books then you can do a lot to help determine whether they will be a success or not by leaving a review on Amazon, and if you post a link to your review here and tell me who your favorite Legion character is, I’ll enter you in the Battle of Earth prize draw. A great surprise is that the older Legion books are starting to sell a […]
