My Extended Death : Part 1

Welcome to the first humanlegion.com exclusive story. My Extended Death is told from the perspective of an alien narrator. It’s set in a different world and a different time, but the lead character, Sentwali, is a Trog, the hive species we see in Marine Cadet (and perhaps with more parts yet to play in the Human Legion’s story). In Marine Cadet, the Trog character Pedro is fascinated by Arun’s gender because, to a Trog, gender is an utterly alien concept. Arun, in turn, struggles with Pedro’s lack of gender and decides to refer to the alien as a male. Purple leaves, English Dropship Infantry at war with the Chinese, and the history of the Human Legion universe.

My favorite military sf discovery of 2014 was Phillip Richards and his excellent Union Series. I was scanning the military sf charts on Amazon to see how one of my books was faring and spotted that the fourth Union book was released earlier this week. Naturally, I bought it straight away and have started reading Recce on my Kindle. Very good so far. In the first book in the series, Andy Moralee has to survive first the brutal hazing from his fellow English Dropship Infantry troopers, and then survive the chaos of war against the Chinese. Star Crusades by Michael G. Thomas is on special offer

I posted earlier today that I’d share if I came across a new release or special offer that I thought might be of interest. I don’t intend to do this regularly, but here’s the second of today, so what do I know? Michael G. Thomas has written plenty of space opera and military science fiction novels and seems very popular. Five new articles have appeared in the ‘Classified Military Data‘ section, each describing a class of vessel carried by Beowulf. Several of these have seen action in the first two Human Legion books. Don’t buy my book!

As I come across exciting new releases and special offers on space opera and military sci-fi books that I’m interested in, I’ll occasionally post the news here. It’s not going to be an everyday thing, and it’s not an affiliate advertising thing where I get commission; I just think that if you enjoyed the Human Legion books, you might also enjoy occasional updates on books by great authors such as Marko Kloos, Christopher Nutall, and Phillip Richards (to name just a few). Human Legion Story Arc and Book Lengths

Since the Human Legion books were launched a few weeks ago, a few people have commented on book lengths. Some have said the first book is too long, others the second book too short. Book length is very important to get right, and I am doing something unusual in not setting all books to the same length. So I’m going to spend a few moments to explain why they are the lengths they are and, more importantly, to set expectations to Human Legion readers about what to expect for the remaining books in the series. A series on small support craft

Shuttle craft are commonplace in science fiction, so much so that it’s easy to let them be generic boxes. A notable exception, I always thought, was the Lambda-class shuttle from Star Wars (where the bad buys get the coolest ships). In the first two Human Legion books, we see three types of shuttlecraft, though not in great detail. They come center stage in the third book.
