New Year. New books are here.

I hope you had a marvelous holiday season. We spent Christmas with my parents and it was great to see several generations getting on so well and relaxing after a hard year. I’m almost ready to release the season Chimera Company issues to Insiders (I’m hoping next week), but I wanted today to let you know about Legion alumnus JR Handley. First off, JR put together his first anthology a month ago, Backblast Area Clear. It’s got an Ember War story from Richard Fox, a Chimera Company universe story from me and plenty of other goodies. Anyway, I wanted to mention the book because in the US there’s a 99c Kindle deal that ends tonight (I think). It’s always good […]

New releases: Chimera Company Season Beta Issue 2, and my Cthulhu Mythos story

Attention: Legionaries! The second of the three-part micro-series went out in the Legion Bulletin Thursday night. Check your spam folder if you didn’t see it. The concluding part is next week. This is the story that features the Legion. The Militia-centered mini-series concluded last month. I’ve already started the main series, but I’m still listening hard to feedback. Thank you very much to everyone who’s been commenting on the prequel series. If you aren’t yet in the Legion, you can see old issues of the Bulletin and get a free starter library by signing up here. I’ve also written a standalone Chimera Company novelette that features some of the same characters for a forthcoming military SF anthology that features the […]

So long, JR Handley. Welcome, J.R. Handley.

Legion News! We are no longer publishing JR Handley. Following a major reevaluation of his life, the author previously going by that name wishes to be known as J.R. Handley. *Sigh*. In other words, I realized that JR has been published both with and without the dots in his name, and we’ve settled on the dotty version going forward as the most appropriate. Hopefully the changes will work through Amazon without causing too much mayhem. To celebrate this important event, his Sleeping Legion books will be 99c over the next few days, and this will be effective in Australia and Canada and discounted everywhere else, unlike the last promotion. If you find the books aren’t discounted, then wait a few hours […]

The Legions are Legion. Anspach, Taylor, Thomas and Cole.

Here’s a quick update on the Battle of Earth Campaign. First of all, thank you to everyone who’s supported the Legion by buying and reading the books. I can’t do this without you. Sales are in the slow lane but the books are still selling. Just a reminder that if you like the books then you can do a lot to help determine whether they will be a success or not by leaving a review on Amazon, and if you post a link to your review here and tell me who your favorite Legion character is, I’ll enter you in the Battle of Earth prize draw. A great surprise is that the older Legion books are starting to sell a […]

The Battle of Earth begins today

You can now read the story of the Human Legion’s final campaign. The Battle of Earth Part1: Endgame and Part2: Restart are available now in the Kindle store to buy, or borrow for free if you’re a Kindle Unlimited subscriber. Paperbacks are not yet ready, but should be by mid-week. I’m really proud of this double-bill climax and I think it benefited more from Recon Team advice than any other book, so thank you; it was a team endeavor. It’s been a while since the last main-line Legion novel, War Against the White Knights, was released, and I know some readers have subsequently come across me from my work with Revenge Squad, the Four Horsemen Universe or elsewhere. For both those […]

Kill the bad guys. Get paid… a lot.

My latest novel is out today. It’s my eleventh published one, although I have two more in the drawer that drew some trad publisher interest when it was being shopped around a decade ago. Sisters Sun and Blue are on the run from Earth, operating a mercenary company on behalf of a mysterious alien owner in another part of the galaxy. Many of the mercs are not even human, so when the company becomes embroiled in the repercussions of a crisis on Earth, the sisters have to ask themselves: what are they really fighting for? This novel is part of the Four Horsemen Universe published by Seventh Seal Press, and if you like the sound of it, you can jump […]

Sept 15th is LAUNCH DAY

Friday will be full of launch madness with four launches. Well, two-and-a-half plus relaunches. Second Strike, is the latest full-length Revenge Squad novel, the urban fantasy/ space opera crossover series set in the worlds of the Human Legion. Like my other launches, it will be initially available at a special launch price. I might have written the words (and Vincent Sammy painted the picture), but the story belongs to someone else, so I’ll let him explain what it’s about: It was supposed to be just another job: trash the cargo of a shipping line that had been messing with a Revenge Squad client. Honestly, I hadn’t meant to blow the ship sky high. And when it transpired that the ship was […]

A scene from ‘The Battle of Earth’

The final Human Legion novel is sketched out and I’m starting to write the scenes in detail. Here’s one I wrote yesterday. I hope you like it. Let me know what you think 😉 Concentrate. Concentrate! On his rookie combat tour, Marine-Grenadier Michael Rosenberg had imagined his first tactical assault would be the worst: that the experience would get easier with every time he flew into combat, strapped to the outside of a Tactical Unit warboat squeezing every last bit of juice out of its engines to avoid enemy fire. It hadn’t. Rosenberg tried to relax his mind into his training, but the assault was already way off course. They should have hit the Carbuncle head-on from space, but instead […]

Marine Cadet

After a good day tidying up the ending to Second Strike  (honest, Ronnie!) I wanted to do a little experiment. Can you see an image below this text? Is it animated (UPDATE: you now need to click/tap on the image to get the big/flashy version), and if it does, is it irritating as hell? By the way, if you know Marine Cadet you might remember that when we first meet Arun McEwan, he’s getting into trouble deep underground in alien tunnels, and those are the tunnels you can see in the background of this image (okay it’s clearer in closeup). Don’t want to give too much away about the climax to the Human Legion series coming later in the year, but in […]
