I’m lifting my head above the writing and publishing trenches for a few moments to share some exciting news about an imminent new Sleeping Legion book launch, a new audiobook deal, and more. If you follow JR Handley’s blog, you’ll already know about a novellete he’s been working on called No Marine Left Behind. Well, he’s no longer working on it because it’s done. Written, edited, rewritten, re-edited, finished! It’s now just his publisher standing between this killer new story and the readers who will love to read it. Yeah, well that’s me, so I’ll be brief because there’s work to be done to bring this out. I’ll be doing the fancy book description when it launches, but the story features Marines left behind enemy lines and what they do about it. I don’t think I’m giving away spoilers when I say their […]
The next Legion Bulletin going out very soon to signed up Legionaries will have download links to a new Human Legion short story. Actually, it isn’t new because it’s a slightly revised version of the story I sold to the Crises & Conflicts anthology by Newcon Press a while back, but since that hasn’t sold much, most of you won’t have seen this, and that’s a shame because I’m very proud of it. I can’t tell you too much about it because it would give away some of the twists, but there is plenty of action and hopefully a surprise or two. Today I’ve built the eBook and put some cover art together. I… ahem… have been known to occasionally have bad judgement on cover art, so I’d like to know what you think…
A sight for parched throats, following extensive personal testing I can attest that this device is suitable for coffee, whiskey, and coffee and whiskey. Other fluids to be used with this item at your own risk. A few diehard Legion crazies have been after swag for a long time now. I licensed all the images for this mug now, and I’ll be doing more. Best of all, now I have swag, I’ll be giving some away to random signed-up Legionaries every month. If you’re on the Legion books by the end of March, you’re in with a chance of a mug guarded by Lance Scipio and his SA-71 carbine. You can always sign up for free here. If you can’t wait, you can pick up your own drink dispenser from Zazzle, which is cool because you can customize it. So if you […]
Today I welcome Thomas Weaver to the Legion team. Thomas is currently sharpening his copy editor’s eyeballs in readiness to receive the third Sleeping Legion novel, Operation Breakout, which is already with developmental editor, Corey Truax. Welcome, Thomas, welcome. Thomas Weaver is a writer, editor, and blogger who got into professional editing almost by accident years ago when a gamer friend from university needed someone to copyedit a screenplay about giant stompy robots (mecha). Having discovered that he greatly enjoys this kind of work, he’s been putting his uncanny knack for grammar and punctuation, along with an eclectic mental collection of facts, to good use ever since as a Wielder of the Red Pen of Doom. Thomas is disabled and lives with his smugly good-looking twin brother Paul, who writes military science fiction and refuses to talk about his military […]
The fictional soldiers JR Handley and I write about in the worlds of the Human Legion are linked by BattleNet. Ammo state, health, secure comms, shared targeting information — there’s a lot of value in all those AIs and their humans acting almost as a group mind. Unfortunately, that makes BattleNet a target for cyber attack. The real-life BattleNet, the name for our forums, is also vulnerable. We’ve had thousands of fake accounts being created in the past few days. Everything looks safe elsewhere on the site, but the system is being swamped by malicious attackers. I’m temporarily suspending BattleNet. Thanks to everyone who used it, including some great advice from recon teams. I’ll reinstate it when and if I can make it safer. Meanwhile, anyone who would have commented on BattleNet can post comments to any page or post […]
Legionaries should have received Legion Bulletin #12 yesterday, featuring Ndeki’s rough guide to aliens (!), and downloadable computer, tablet and phone wallpapers for The Legion Awakes. If you’re using GMail then the Bulletin will be in the Promotions tab. If you join the Legion then you’ll get access to this and all past issues of the Bulletin.
I hope you’ve been enjoying the new series: The Sleeping Legion and Revenge Squad. The opening books have been at a special 99c/ 99p launch promotion, which is ending this week, so if you haven’t yet grabbed a copy then now would be a very good time. You can find the Amazon page by clicking on the cover images below. Later this week I’ll be writing some more bonus material to go into the next Legion Bulletin, and some artwork downloads too. I know JR Handley has the pedal to the floor writing the next Sleeping Legion book: Operation Breakout, and I’ve been writing a deadly Revenge Squad showdown with some LTB-10 combat droids (or Little Tin Bastards as they’re known) in Second Strike. When I take a break from writing the new Revenge Squad book, I’ve been sketching out the […]
I want to thank everyone for their contribution to the Legion in 2016 and hope you join us for the 2017 campaign. It’s been a hard year, and with long gaps between releases, but we’ve both grown as a team, and delivered some books I’m truly proud of. And I keep saying ‘we’ rather than ‘I’, that’s because these book projects have all been team efforts. Our first release came out in February 2016. This was a multi-author box set called The Empire At War, featuring some British military science fiction authors: Chris Nuttall (Ark Royal etc.), PP Corcoran (Discovery of the Saiph etc), Phillip Richards (The Union Series). I’m in it too with Marine Cadet, an exclusive Human Legion short story called The President’s Son, an article on the state of British military Science Fiction, a suggested reading list, […]
