Audio. Audio. Audio.

It’s the hottest thing in publishing. It’s the savior of publishers seeing their eBook sales plummet. I’m talking, of course, about audiobooks. Personally, I’m something of a late convert, but recently, I’ve been running a lot more and when I’m not being chased by zombies (from the Zombies, Run! Game) I’ve started listening to audiobooks. At the moment I’m enjoying listening to Wraithkin by Jason Cordova. But let’s bring this back to the Human Legion and the Four Horsemen Universe (4HU), where I’m bursting with audio news for you today. And there will be more later in the week. First of all, I’ve been listening for some time now to a stream of Human Legion listeners asking when the later […]

JR Handley soars while Chimera Company gears up

Breach Team breaches the top-100! I was so pleased last night to see Human Legion Universe alumnus, JR Handley, has broken into the top-100 science fiction bestsellers on amazon.com with a standalone novel collaboration with Chris Winder called Breach Team. Unfortunately, by the time I got around to typing this, the book’s slipped out again. That’s the way it goes, sometimes. Let’s hope it peaks once more. I’m about two-thirds through reading it myself and enjoying it very much. If you liked JR’s Sleeping Legion novels then you will like Breach Team. Reminds me of Demons of Kor-Lir. So, well done to Chris, but especially to JR because we know him so well from his Human Legion Universe stories. I’m […]

Legion Bulletin 47 dropped last night with the Chimera Company conclusion

Legion Bulletin 47 dropped in the inboxes of signed-up legionaries last night. This brings  to a conclusion the prequel micro-series featuring sapper of the Legion Osu Sybutu. I’ve invested a significant amount of time in the two prequel series and the prequel novelette I wrote for an anthology due in December. It’s paying off already, though. I’m most of the way through writing season one issue one, and I’m energized by this powerful backstory flooding around that I put in the prequels. For example, Osu Sybutu feels utterly wretched at the end of the issue that dropped last night. He feels like he’s betrayed his honor and that of the Legion. But in issue one, he gets the chance to make […]

New releases: Chimera Company Season Beta Issue 2, and my Cthulhu Mythos story

Attention: Legionaries! The second of the three-part micro-series went out in the Legion Bulletin Thursday night. Check your spam folder if you didn’t see it. The concluding part is next week. This is the story that features the Legion. The Militia-centered mini-series concluded last month. I’ve already started the main series, but I’m still listening hard to feedback. Thank you very much to everyone who’s been commenting on the prequel series. If you aren’t yet in the Legion, you can see old issues of the Bulletin and get a free starter library by signing up here. I’ve also written a standalone Chimera Company novelette that features some of the same characters for a forthcoming military SF anthology that features the […]

Kill the bad guys. Get paid… a lot.

My latest novel is out today. It’s my eleventh published one, although I have two more in the drawer that drew some trad publisher interest when it was being shopped around a decade ago. Sisters Sun and Blue are on the run from Earth, operating a mercenary company on behalf of a mysterious alien owner in another part of the galaxy. Many of the mercs are not even human, so when the company becomes embroiled in the repercussions of a crisis on Earth, the sisters have to ask themselves: what are they really fighting for? This novel is part of the Four Horsemen Universe published by Seventh Seal Press, and if you like the sound of it, you can jump […]

Insurgency: Spartika audio out tomorrow. A free novel and more releases soon.

Mobilization News Update Attention listeners of the the Sleeping Legion in audio: the final chapter is out March 6th. That’s right, Insurgency: Spartika, narrated by the ever excellent Jeffrey Kafer is out via audible.com and amazon. If you have an audible subscription you can pre-order before the title comes live tomorrow with a spare Audible credit. If you buy or have already bought the Kindle edition, you will be able to add audio narration (which means you get the audiobook, basically — it’s called Whispersync for Voice) for a knock down price, although it sometimes takes a while before Amazon cranks all the handles to make that happen. If you haven’t tried the Sleeping Legion yet, head on over to […]

Revenge Squad and Four Horsemen book launches today

We have bountiful science fiction goodness for you today. Second Strike is out today in paperback and Kindle editions, the latter at the special launch price of 99c or whatever not very much is in other stores. It was supposed to be just another job: trash the cargo of a shipping line that had been messing with a Revenge Squad client. Honestly, I hadn’t meant to blow the ship sky high. And when it transpired that the ship was owned by the most powerful man in Port Zahir, and that he blamed us for the damage he’d suffered, it was Revenge Squad’s turn to face revenge. My name is NJ McCall, and this is the story of how I helped […]

Sept 15th is LAUNCH DAY

Friday will be full of launch madness with four launches. Well, two-and-a-half plus relaunches. Second Strike, is the latest full-length Revenge Squad novel, the urban fantasy/ space opera crossover series set in the worlds of the Human Legion. Like my other launches, it will be initially available at a special launch price. I might have written the words (and Vincent Sammy painted the picture), but the story belongs to someone else, so I’ll let him explain what it’s about: It was supposed to be just another job: trash the cargo of a shipping line that had been messing with a Revenge Squad client. Honestly, I hadn’t meant to blow the ship sky high. And when it transpired that the ship was […]

Stream ‘Demons of Kor-Lir’ audiobook today

I’m back from a week’s camping and can confirm that my 2010 Kindle3 with Amazon leather case (with built-in light) still needs just a single charge to supply a week’s worth of reading at night in my sleeping bag. I read Explorations: War and Golden Horde, which (was) the latest in the 4 Horsemen Universe series. Great stuff. I didn’t listen to audiobooks, but if that’s your thing, then Demons of Kor-Lir is available to stream now. This is the prequel novella to JR Handley’s Sleeping series that we licensed to Podium Publishing, and it sounds great! To get to the audiobook, you need to register with audfans.com (which is free and doesn’t require credit card details) and then you […]
