Human Dynasty – teaser

And the Human Legion begat… Human Dynasty. Phaedra Tremayne, known as Springer until this point in the story of the Human Legion, foresaw a future with Arun McEwan as the head of a dynasty, but she didn’t see herself in that vision, only a darkness that drove her to homicidal rage. If the guns ever fall silent and Arun still lives, what then? Xin, Indiya, and Springer… if any of them survive the war then what will be the next part of their stories, and will any be tied to Arun’s? The story of the Human Legion will be told in six novels. There will eventually be prequels, spin-off books and series, and short story collections, but the main series […]

Announcing the Human Legion Wiki

Today I’m very proud to announce the Human Legion Wiki is officially open. No doubt you’ve seen Wikipedia, but you might not be aware that there are tens of thousands of other sites based on the same Wikia platform. In a blurring between real life and the worlds of the Human Legion five centuries hence, the Legion Infopedia is now available for you to explore in the present day. Not only that, but you can go and contribute yourself. My thanks go out to the Legionaries who traveled time to construct our Human Legion wiki. These brave individuals are known only by their codenames: Homo Helveticus, and Porkchop NCR. Take a look, enjoy, tell me what you think is missing, and […]

Human Empire Force Recon Team: recruiting now!

Update: the sign up period has now closed, and initial Recon Team candidates are being contacted. Stay sharp, though, in case we need to call up the reserves 🙂 Human Empire is the fourth book in the Human Legion series.  If real life behaved itself, the book would be available to buy now.  But no plan survives contact with reality, as you know. Ours certainly hasn’t, but we’ve never stopped re-knotting our plan in a way that would make the Duke of Wellington proud. And it’s worked!  We pulled some time back, and we’re just days away from finishing. We’ve had some wonderful messages of support from fans, but I’m sure for some that it’s been such a long time since […]

Authors United’s letter to the Department of Justice

I don’t discuss politics, religion, or sport on this site. As for Babylon 5 vs. Deep Space 9… I won’t go there. The same goes for culture wars. I try to keep out of those topics because this site is about connecting with fans of the Human Legion series, discussing space opera and military science fiction, and giving bonus goodies and updates. Besides this is an international site. Most of my followers are American, but a substantial proportion of Human Legion fans are from Germany, Canada, Australia and the UK (and at least one from Switzerland… you know who you are!). An English author commenting on American culture wars politics isn’t going to end well, and is going to seem […]

It’s D-Day for Arun McEwan. Renegade Legion is live!

Poor Arun. After running for his life for much of Indigo Squad, Arun has it even harder in the new Human Legion book, Renegade Legion. Fighting for freedom is hard, but winning freedom is far more difficult, as Arun and his comrades are about to find out. The Human Legion Book3: Renegade Legion is published today in Kindle eBook and in paperback.  Click here for the eBook and here for the paperback. If you enjoy this book, or one of the earlier ones, then do please leave a good review on Amazon or Goodreads. It does make a big difference to my ability to earn a living writing books. My sincere thanks to everyone who has left a review so far. Even […]

Dreams of Victory

Dreams of Victory —A short story from the worlds of the Human Legion — SPOILER ALERT! THIS STORY IS SET BETWEEN THE EVENTS OF BOOK2: INDIGO SQUAD AND BOOK3: RENEGADE LEGION. DON’T READ UNLESS YOU’VE FINISHED INDIGO SQUAD. Know your enemy. Learn his weaknesses. Use them to crush him. Marine Laban Caccamo closed his eyes and fed a recorded image of his Navy opponent directly into his brain. As he stared at his adversary, he filled his mind with fantasies of victory. Long ago, back when Hecht had been Caccamo’s best friend – before promotions had torn the super-diligent lance sergeant away – the two of them had fiercely competed for everything: girls, food, cards, Scendence, shooting, sprints, endurance contests, […]

Star Crusades by Michael G. Thomas is on special offer

I posted earlier today that I’d share if I came across a new release or special offer that I thought might be of interest. I don’t intend to do this regularly, but here’s the second of today, so what do I know? Michael G. Thomas has written plenty of space opera and military science fiction novels and seems very popular. I’ve never read him, but when I noticed today that he’s offering a bundle of the first three Star Crusades novels for 99 cents, I bought them. This isn’t a recommendation as such (but only because I’ve yet to read any of his books) but you might want to try him out if he’s new to you too. If you […]

Beowulf’s support craft

Five new articles have appeared in the ‘Classified Military Data‘ section, each describing a class of vessel carried by Beowulf. Several of these have seen action in the first two Human Legion books. You will see more of them in the third book, Renegade Legion, including our first use of dropships. The best way to read the articles on support craft is to start with the introduction here.

Don’t buy my book!

As I come across exciting new releases and special offers on space opera and military sci-fi books that I’m interested in, I’ll occasionally post the news here. It’s not going to be an everyday thing, and it’s not an affiliate advertising thing where I get commission; I just think that if you enjoyed the Human Legion books, you might also enjoy occasional updates on books by great authors such as Marko Kloos, Christopher Nutall, and Phillip Richards (to name just a few). All that’s still true, but I’m going to first of all mention a book that was put on pre-release last night. It’s called Total Conflict and is an anthology of 18 short stories about conflict, nearly all of […]

Space dogfights, what is down in a spacecraft, and upside-down moonwalking

I received some very interesting comments today from Hans. Thanks, Hans 🙂 So that I could share more easily with everyone, I’ve put them into this post. Let’s have some debate!   First up we have space dogfighting. Here’s Hans: IMHO I think that banking in space only makes you an easy target. Turn 90 degrees and accelerate hard to change direction takes time, fuel and is too slow (while you’ll keep going forward ’cause you didn’t stop). As I conceive a ship, it has thrusters all around its construction so you can roll, pitch, yaw but most important you can go up and down. As I see a space battle, if you want to shake someone at your six, […]
