Naked in the Black

No, I’m not talking about skinny dipping in the Dudley Canal.* Those days are behind me.

Naked in the Black is the name I’ve given to the revised Time Dogz short story I wrote in 2021 for the anthology, On Deadly Ground. I’ve refreshed it slightly so it ties in better with the first three Time Dogz novels.

The hero (or possibly anti-hero) of the series is Danish time-bum Stiletto Caldwell, snatched from death on a battlefield in 2301. Think of him as a mix of a romance novelist’s dream bad boy, Harry Dresden, and space bum Dave Lister from the TV show Red Dwarf.

In short order he causes trouble, falls in love, gets in a gunfight with Nazis, disobeys orders, laughs at Karl Marx’s hat, disobeys orders some more, and engages in a daring aerial dogfight over the hull of an enormous alien mothership keeping station over Los Angeles.

And then Stiletto surprises everyone by displaying emotional maturity and selflessness.

But don’t expect him to make a habit of that.

I didn’t know all that when I wrote the short story, in which the tale is told from the point of view of Stiletto and two other characters. This different from the novels, which are written from the point of view of Stiletto recounting his adventures after the event.

Stiletto, naturally, is not an entirely unbiased narrator!

The Past is your Playground

The first three novels are written and launch sequence initiated.

I’m going to quietly release the paperbacks first. In fact, I already have. The first novel The Past Sucks, is out in paperback today (14^th March). And So Does the Future and Time Travel in Rock: 1984 come out on Friday and Saturday.

So if you’re eager for a dose of time travel shenanigans, you don’t have long to wait.

Time travel means you can read the books now!

The novels aren’t yet available. But the advantage of time travel is we can break the normal rules of causality so you can read them before they’re written.

Isn’t that amazing?
