Today is the launch of the Sleeping Legion Deluxe Box Set. You can grab it here: http://getbook.at/SL_Box
After JR and I went to-and-fro, we settled on a launch price of 99 pennies for December.
I called the box set deluxe not because of the smart picture of Lance Scipio on the front (courtesy of Vincent Sammy), nor even due to the bonus bits and bobs from JR and me. It earns the description deluxe because it includes a brand new story.
Trial by Fire is Lance Scipio’s last mission but also his first from a story chronology. Either way, it’s a cracker: brutal, tense, and shot full of dark humor.
Inside this Kindle book are all the novels, the novella, and the novelettes. There’s also a foreword and editor’s notes from me. JR has supplied notes on characters, locations, alien races, a map, and photos of him sandboxing some of the battles.
Like I said, we had a debate on pricing. 99c doesn’t sound very deluxe, after all. However, we wanted people who had already bought the novels to be able to grab the new material for a token amount.
So December’s your chance to do precisely that. In the new year, we’ll settle at a more reasonable price of $9.99. Still a bargain.
The box set is available for free for anyone with a Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Also, the four Sleeping Legion novels and Demons of Kor-Lir novella are published by Podium as audiobooks. If you are an Audible member, you can listen to all of them for free because they are currently part of the Audible Plus catlog (Audible’s equivalent of Kindle Unlimited).
However, this is the last time I have any firm plans to publish the Sleeping Legion or JR Handley. Or indeed, anyone other than myself.
This is it.
So I want to take this opportunity to thank JR and everyone who’s supported him and me by buying and borrowing the books. I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved together.
The original plan was for JR to write four novellas to come out in the gaps between Human Legion releases. Both series were to be finished by summer 2016.
We all know what happens when plans hit reality.
And sometimes the unexpected results are in the credit side of the balance. I don’t think there’s been a week gone by since 2015 when JR and I haven’t been in touch, if only to share what’s been going on in our lives. We even seriously discussed co-writing a completely new series this year, but it didn’t work out. At least for now.
I still haven’t met the guy in the flesh. We were going to at the start of 2020, but we got pandemicked. If the virus had hit just a couple of weeks later, I would have shared a few beers with my friend.
One day, we’ll have that beer together.
… except for this bit!
I mentioned recently that I’m in my first StoryBundle with Kevin J. Anderson and a whole bunch of cool authors. If you want quality science fiction adventure, and you already have all the Sleeping Legion books, then this is the bargain of the year. https://storybundle.com/scifi
The StoryBundle ends on Thursday night, Dec 9th. Kevin, myself and some of the other authors will be live on Twitch doing a countdown party 4:30CST. There will be a flash writing game. (I don’t know what that means either, but it sounds terrifying). I’ll have links up on Facebook and Twitter when I get them.
JR messaged me last night to say he’s part of a promotion with 18 other authors giving away free signed paperbacks. (You supply your email address, and the authors will add you to their newsletters). He’s entering The Legion Awakes, Breach Team, and Vacuums Suck Hard. There’s also first-in-series paperbacks for Salvage Title and Trashman universe, for which I’ve recently written anthology stories.
I finished off another anthology story. Had an idea for yet another. But once I’ve done all the book launch work for JR’s box, then it’s back to all hands on deck to finish a draft of the first Time Dogz novel before Christmas.
Stay safe and love your reading.
