Did you win a signed audiobook on CD?

Last month I announced the new Legionaries group with the prize draw of a signed Human Legion audiobook on CD. The winner of the prize draw is Thomas with a Comcast email address and who I think might hail from San Diego. Thomas, if you’re out there, please get in touch. I’ve been trying to reach you for the past month! For everyone else, fear not, I’m going to do another draw at the end of the month for a signed audiobook (on CD) of your choice out of Marine Cadet, Indigo Squad, or Renegade Legion. My publisher (Tantor Media) gave me a few but they’re running out, so I won’t be doing this regularly with the audio CDs. There […]

Start a new military SF series for free

The publisher of The Empire at War: British Military Science Fiction has made the Kindle edition available for free download until June 14th. This is an anthology of military science fiction novels, short stories and articles from British authors. The first Human Legion novel is included, as is an exclusive Human Legion short story called The President’s Son. Plus, of course, novels from other great authors and stunning internal artwork. If you haven’t already got the collection, there will never be a better time to grab it than now. Tell your friends too, but hurry because the offer runs out tomorrow. Click here to go to the Kindle Preview for the book.

Revenge Squad cover reveal

Okay, you’ve seen this image of NJ McCall before, but here he is with his final cover text (click or tap on the main image for a full-length view). He doesn’t look very happy, and if you read the book, you’ll understand why. Don’t worry, though, after the scene captured in this image things get better for NJ (before they get much, much worse…). In the course of delivering entertainment thrills, this book treads on some potentially treacherous ground that I want to get right: corruption, racism, combat veterans finding it tough to adjust to civilian life, and extreme farming to mention just a few. So I’m hoping you will help me out and read through the beta version which should be […]

Altered Carbon coming to NetFlix

I’m guessing I’m late to the game on this but I’ve just read an article about the TV adaptation of Altered Carbon,  the 2002 novel by Richard K. Morgan. I remember reading this when it came out and was one of the last paperbacks I bought (I was already reading eBooks by then, but title availability was limited). I thoroughly enjoyed it and its sequels. Morgan paints a grim future with touches of cyberpunk, and military SF, but at its heart it’s a mystery thriller. With guns. I knew Morgan said he had an offer for movie/TV rights very early on, and that was what gave him enough financial headroom to concentrate on his writing. Didn’t think it would ever get […]

I’m interviewed in SFFWorld.com

SFFWorld.com have just posted an interview with me here. I splurge on about the origins of the Human Legion series and other stuff besides. It’s my first interview in a long while. Why not  hop on over, take a read, and leave a comment? Comments leave a smile on the faces of the good people who put together these websites for our pleasure (plus it makes me look good 🙂 ).   In other news, like me many of you will have enjoyed the Frontlines series by Marko Kloos. Not content with writing a killer bestselling book series, Mr. Kloos has devised a recipe for the Shockfrost cocktail he mentions in his books. Frankly, that’s just showing off 🙂 I […]

The Legion’s plan of campaign for 2016

I made a decision about the Human Legion books a week ago, and now that the website is back up and running, it’s time to share that with you. Sit down and take a stiff drink first; this might hurt. For over a year now, the Human Legion series has been conceived as a series of six novels*. That’s still the case, and I am already working on the finale: The Battle of Earth. In February 2015, a month after the release of Indigo Squad, I recruited Ian Whates as a co-writer for three principle reasons: To at least maintain the rate of releasing the novels, and preferably to reduce from every four months to every three months. To take […]

The Forever War – $1.99 special offer

My favorite book: The Forever War by Joe Haldeman is on a special offer on Amazon.com for $1.99. Unfortunately, it’s not on offer in the UK, and that probably means everywhere except the US. I read a copy of The Forever War in my local library when I was about 14, and it had such a profound effect on me that… well, I now write science fiction novels for a living. It’s one of the classic military SF novels. Scandalously it was out of print for a long while, and I spent years chasing down a paperback copy. With the advent of eBooks, that shameful neglect of great literature should be a thing of the past. Here’s the link to the […]

Win a signed Human Legion audiobook

The website has been quiet of late because the (virtual) builders have been in rewiring and extending and took a little longer than I expected, but there’s plenty to talk about now that it’s back up and running properly. First of all: audio! Tantor Media published audio editions of the first three Legion novels earlier this year, and very fine they are too. Initially they were available as MP3 downloads and CDs from Tantor.com, Audible.com and Amazon, although the CD versions were shipped from the US, so pricey if you lived elsewhere. But in recent weeks, they’ve snuck into the Amazon store as ‘Whispersync for Voice’ editions. What this means is that if you already have the Kindle version, […]

War Against the White Knights

The fifth book in the Human Legion series is available from Amazon now in its Kindle edition. Paperback to follow shortly. As is Legion custom, I’ve set a low launch price for loyal humanlegion.com subscribers to pick up the book for a song. I’ll be raising the price shortly, probably next week. I do get asked whether it’s more helpful to me to wait and buy at a higher price, a question that I’m grateful that people want to ask.  Actually, buying now does help me because at this stage it’s all about getting the book in the charts and the Amazon selling algorithms so that people notice the book. Enjoy the book. There will be one more novel in […]

Book 5. It’s there…

At some point over the next 12 hours, War Against the White Knights should pop up on Amazon. It will be Kindle-only initially, although the paperback will follow in about a week. I’ll make a big fuss about it next week, but I reckon my job’s done for tonight. Tomorrow morning I’m off to a science fiction convention in Manchester, England for the Easter break. Much more on this next week when I’m back. And future projects too! Enjoy the book.
